Thousands travel every year to see the world-famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, a dramatic rope walkway suspended between the cliffs and the tiny island once used by salmon fishermen.
But while most visitors queue for parking, follow the footpath in a crowd, and jostle for a photo, our guests enjoy something truly rare. Their very own quiet view of the bridge and the surrounding coastline, right from the grounds of the retreat.
At Carrick-a-Rede Retreat, we’re lucky to have a tucked-away viewing spot that looks directly across the headlands towards the Rope Bridge. It’s about a two-minute walk from the cabins, and you’ll often have it all to yourself, just sea air, birdsong, and one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic views.
Whether it’s your first time seeing the bridge or your fiftieth, there’s something special about pausing in silence, watching the waves crash far below, and knowing you don’t have to rush. Bring a coffee. Bring a camera. Bring nothing at all.
We’re often told by guests that this little spot is one of their favourite parts of their stay. A place to breathe. A place to sit still. A view that most visitors will never get to see this way.
Getting There
From our carpark, you’ll find a sign pointing you in the right direction. You’ll follow a small gravel path that leads to the viewpoint. No tickets, no time slots — just follow the fence line, and you’ll spot the bench waiting for you.
Looking to Visit the Rope Bridge Up Close Too?
Of course, we still recommend seeing the bridge in person. It’s just a 4-minute drive away, and you can book your ticket directly with the National Trust here.
But if you’d rather sip a glass of wine at sunset and enjoy the view without moving a muscle — we’ve got the best seat in the house.
